In this article an attempt has been made to observe and highlight the cultural differences that exist between developing countries and the more technologically advanced countries of the world. The paper attempts to delineate the impact of these differences on the believes, attitudes, emotional patterns, and their relevance for the planning and deliver of mental health services. It draws attention to the concern of various Western mental health specialists to the break down of moral values that exists in the West and to their indifference towards Oriental cultural values. The importance of Islamic values, especially as those observed in the mystical writings of various Islamic scholars , is dealth with and their role in the planning of programmes of mental health are discussed.
