title = {The Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on Death Anxiety and Mental Health in Women With HIV in Abadan City, Iran},
abstract ={Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on death anxiety and mental health in women with HIV in Abadan City, Iran. Methods This study has a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test and control group. A sample of 30 patients referring to Abadan Behavioral Disease Counseling Center in 2015, were randomly assigned to either experimental (n=15) or control group (n=15). The experimental group received 8 sessions of acceptance and commitment treatment in two 90-minute sessions per week. The study data were collected using Templar death anxiety scale and Goldberg general health questionnaire in 3 time points; before the intervention, immediately after the intervention, and one and a half months later as the follow-up. The obtained data were analyzed by analysis of covariance in SPSS V. 16. Results The results of covariance analysis showed that acceptance and commitment treatment reduced death anxiety (P<0.001) and increased mental health (P<0.001) in the experimental group compared with the control group at the post-test and follow-up period. Conclusion Acceptance and commitment therapy can be effective in reducing death anxiety and improving the mental health of patients with HIV. Therefore, acceptance and commitment treatment as a complementary therapy along with therapeutic treatments in these patients is recommended to improve the psychological symptoms. },

abstract ={Objectives This study aimed to predict the intensity of pain based on the amount of alexithymia in patients with chronic pain, and in this relationship, the behavioral inhibition system has a mediating role. Methods The present study has a correlational design and carried out with a structural equation modeling approach. The statistical population comprised all 20-60 years old patients with chronic pain who had referred to Mahan Clinic and the physical medicine and rehabilitation clinic of Arman in Tehran, from spring to autumn of 2017. Of them, 488 patients who had experienced the musculoskeletal pain for at least 3 months, were chosen purposefully and asked to respond the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), the inhibition/activation system scale, and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The analysis was done in SmartPLS. Results The intensity of pain had a positive relationship with inhibition system (P<0.001) and fight/flight system (P<0.05). Alexithymia had the positive a relationship with inhibition system (P<0.001). Alexithymia (t=6.34, β=0.29), inhibition system (t=3.77, β=0.17), and fight/ flight system (t=4.26, β=0.18) could explain the variance of the pain intensity. Alexithymia could explain the activity of inhibition system (t=8.03, β=0.30) and the behavioral activation system (t=2.83, β=-0.14). Conclusion The relationship between alexithymia and the intensity of pain was not a simple direct relationship, but the inhibition system with its avoidance behavior output could affect this relationship.},

abstract ={Objectives The current study aimed at serving the effects of continuous and interval exercise training on decreasing the depression and anxiety in patients with heart diseases after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Methods The research method was semi-experimental and the statistical population included the cardiac patients after coronary artery bypass graft surgery at Tehran Heart Center. They were referred to the Tehran Heart Center in the first three months of 2010. Twenty patients were selected from Tehran Heart Center and divided into a selected aerobic continuous training (n=10) or an aerobic interval training (n=10) with three intervals, three times a week for eight weeks. Depression and anxiety were measured by Persian version of Castello and Camri questioner. Also T student test was employed for within group analysis. Spss Version 16 was used for statistical analyses. Results The study results showed that both selected aerobic continuous (pre-exercise 89.16±5.48, in comparison with post exercise 82.30±4.78, P=0.008) and interval exercise (pre-exercise 83.70±5.01in comparison with post exercise 77.30±3.80, P=0.022) programs had a decremented beneficial significant effect on depression and anxiety. Also there were no significant differences between the two groups in improving the anxiety and depression (P=0.381). Conclusion It can be concluded that both continuous and interval aerobic exercise programs had a positive effect on reducing the anxiety and depression of patients after coronary artery bypass graft surgery, but no differences were observed between type (continuous, interval, resistance, Aerobics, etc.) and intensity (low, moderate and severe) and their effects on the mental and psychological aspects. Therefore, both types of programs are proposed for clinical centers and psychological rehabilitation.},

abstract ={Objectives The present study aimed at exploring the role of gender, marital status, coping strategies, religious orientation, and depression level in predicting suicidal tendencies using a correlational, and in some cases, practical methodology. Methods The sample group included 260 bachelor students (175 male and 85 female; 213 single and 72 married) of Shiraz University in the academic year 2011-2012. The subjects were selected by a multi-stage cluster sampling method and then measured using Carver and Scheier Coping Strategy questioners (short form), Allport religious orientation questioners (short form), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSSI). The data were analyzed using enter regression method and SPSS 20 software. Results Regression coefficients indicated that masculinity (B=0.83), ineffective coping style (B=5.91), specifically coping strategies for denial (B=1.04), self-blaming (B=0.81) and non-behavioral conflict (B=0.49) can positively and significantly predict the risk of suicide, while acceptance as coping strategy (B=-0.48) predicts this risk negatively and significantly. Conclusion The results showed that the above variables in the strongest predictive equation had 78% of the variance of suicide risk. Thus, when encountering the individuals exposed to suicidal risks, psychologists are expected to focus more on training coping methods. },

abstract ={Objectives Cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in adolescents. Psychological factors play an important role in the development and sustainability, and treatment outcomes of cancer. One of these factors is the attitude towards death. One of the variables that play a fundamental role in the attitude towards death is the quality of the parent-child relationship, which forms the attachment style basis. Therefore, in this research, the structural pattern of death attitude based on attachment styles in adolescents with cancer was explored. Accordingly, we investigated the mediating role of emotional repression and anxiety sensitivity. Methods In total, 150 adolescents with cancer (85 girls & 65 boys) in the Isfahan Province, Iran, referring to Health centers and Ala Cancer Prevention and Control Center (MACSA). They were selected by convenience sampling method. Then, they were evaluated by the following measures: Hazan and Shaver Attachment Style in Adults Inventory, Wong Death Attitude Inventory, Weinberger Emotional Repression Inventory, Anxiety Sensitivity (AS) Inventory. The obtained data were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results The collected result indicated that attachment quality has a direct and significant relationship with the attitude toward death in adolescents with cancer. Additionally, attachment quality through the mediating role of emotional suppression and anxiety sensitivity had significant relationships with the attitude toward death in this population. Conclusion Attachment styles, emotional suppression, and anxiety sensitivity are the important determinants of attitude toward death in adolescents with cancer. Moreover, the assessed model could explain the attitude toward death in these individuals. },

abstract ={Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the discriminant validity of family adaptability and cohesion evaluation subscales. We investigated families referring to counseling, family courts, substance dependence treatment centers, and healthy and clinically defined cutoff scores for the breakdown of healthy Iranian families. Methods This scale was validated by four psychologists and translated by a professional English translator. After conducting a pilot study on 30 subjects, the necessary corrections were made to the scale. Families from 7 provinces (N=1652 subjects, parents= 558, mothers= 576, mothers and children=518) responded to the scale. For data analysis, univariate Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and multivariate operating characteristic curves were used. Results The obtained results suggested that family mean normal score in all groups, clinical counseling, substance dependence, and family courts subscales suggested significant differences in terms of adverse life events, family interactions, family satisfaction, integrity, balance, flexibility, intertwined, torn, confused, and frustrated that there is flexibility (P<0/05). Conclusion The operating characteristic curve analysis to determine cutoff scores revealed the cutoff scores of family adaptability and cohesion evaluation subscales between normal and clinical diagnosis established optimum. Results: emotion regulation strategies mediated the relationship of metacognitive beliefs and attachment styles with risky behaviors. There was no significant relationship between adaptive strategies of emotion regulation and risky behaviors, and between metacognitive beliefs adaptive strategies of emotion regulation (P>0.001), but the relationship between metacognitive beliefs and maladaptive strategies was significant. All attachment styles had a direct and significant correlation with both adaptive and maladaptive strategies of emotion regulation. The presented model could explain 14% of the risky behaviors in subjects. Conclusion: Metacognitive beliefs and attachment styles are directly and indirectly related to emotion regulation strategies and risky behaviors of the children of war veterans. These results can be used for designing the preventive programs for this group.},

abstract ={Objectives: This study aimed to examine the mediating role of sexual self-schema in the relationship of sexual functioning with sexual satisfaction in married female students. Methods: This is a descriptive correlational study. The study population consists of all married female students of Alzahra University and Islamic Azad University of South Tehran branch in 2017. Of these, 360 were selected by multistage cluster random sampling method. Data were collected using Women’s Sexual Self-Schema Scale of Anderson and Cyranowski (1994), Female Sexual Function Index of Rosen et al. (2000), and Index of Sexual Satisfaction designed by Hudson (1993). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and using path analysis. Results: The Passionate-Romantic factor of sexual self-schema had a positive mediating role in relationship of sexual function with sexual satisfaction, while its Embarrassed-Conservative dimension had a negative mediating role (P<0.001). The factor of Open-Direct had no mediating role. Moreover, sexual functioning had a significant positive effect on Passionate-Romantic and Open-Direct dimension of sexual self-schema, while its effect on Embarrassed-Conservative was significantly negative. Furthermore, the Passionate-Romantic factor had a significant positive effect on sexual satisfaction, while the factor of Embarrassed-Conservative had a significant negative effect (P<0.001). The factor of Open-Direct had no direct effect on sexual satisfaction. The effect of sexual functioning on sexual satisfaction was significantly negative (P<0.001). Conclusion: Sexual self-schema mediates the relationship of sexual functioning with sexual satisfaction. },

title = {A Cross-sectional Study on the Ability to Remember Mania Symptoms in Patients With Type I Bipolar Disorder 60 Months After Hospital Discharge},
abstract ={Objectives: Identifying the acute symptoms of manic episode remembered by the patients can help psychiatrists improve their ability to manage bipolar disorder. Given the importance of remembering symptoms, the aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of patients with type I bipolar disorder during the euthymic period to remember their past mania symptoms after hospital discharge. Methods: Participants were 59 patients with type I bipolar disorder admitted to Hazrat-e-Rasool-e-Akram Hospital and Iran Psychiatry Hospital in 2012. They measured by using Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV axis I Disorders (SCID-I) and Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) and their mania symptoms were recorded. Their demographic information were extracted from their medical records. Sixth months after discharge, they were evaluated again by using the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HRSD-17), SCID-I, YMRS, and Mini–Mental State Examination (MMSE) through face-to-face interview. To assess the agreement on the symptoms during admission and 60 months after discharge, McNemar Test and Kappa coefficients were used. Results: most common mania symptoms remembered by the patients were decreased need for sleep (91.2%), irritability (83.9%), excessive involvement in activities with a high likelihood of painful consequences (81.3%) and the least frequent remembered symptom was distractibility (17.6%). The highest positive predictive values were related to the symptoms of irritability (100%), talkativeness (100%) and decreased need for sleep (96.3%), while the highest negative predictive value was related to elevated mood (87.5%). Conclusion: management of patients with bipolar disorder, psychiatrists can trust the patients’ ability to remember the three mania symptoms including irritability, decreased need for sleep and talkativeness. Regarding the symptom of elevated mood in bipolar patients, negative response of patients can be trusted.},

title = {Management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children and Adolescents: A National Clinical Guideline},
abstract ={One of the best approaches for evidence-based care is providing and using the guidelines. Observing these guidelines results in a better quality of health care, decreased unnecessary or harmful interventions, lower health costs, and an increase in patients’ satisfaction. Management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)-1 in children and adolescents is a guideline published after 6 years of research and review of resources in the domain of treatment of ADHD. A research team formed in Iran University of Medical Sciences provided this guideline by addressing reliable references and observing a scientific approach. This guideline is provided with respect to the present resources for the standard treatment of ADHD in our country. To prepare this guideline, this research team considered the most recent and strict version of the writing method in the treatment section of Health, Treatment, and Education Ministry. Although the present guideline has some shortcomings, it is a turning point in the history of the development of health care. It presents a systematic approach in the treatment of such disorder, one of the most prevalent disorders in child psychiatry. The colleagues and treatment centers can help such an issue by applying this guideline.},
